Factors To Consider When Buying A Secondhand Fridge Freezer

70

Like Australia, can you imagine life without a refrigerator in a hot and humid country? As the warmer months approach, this is going to be extremely important.

Now according to reports, 90% of Australian households have a fridge-freezer, but what if your one broke down? Getting a new fridge-freezer might burn a hole in your pocket with the oncoming holiday festivals.

Secondhand fridge freezers are a great solution to this problem. However, it would help to keep in mind a few factors when looking for used fridges and freezers.

The Measurements

The measurements are crucial whenever you are getting a new appliance, like a fridge. There are two ways to do this efficiently:

● Measure the space where you want to place the appliance

● Measure the length, width and depth of your broken device which you want to replace

It would help if you were very sure of the measurements because, unlike new models, the secondhand fridge freezers don’t come with a return or replacement facility. Ideally, there should be a one-inch gap on each side and the top of the refrigerator. So, measure accordingly.

The Model Style

Research well about the different models and types beforehand, unless you want a similar model to your previous Freezer. However, you don’t want to get the wrong style that doesn’t serve your purpose.

Usually, there are four styles of fridge-freezers:

●      Top Freezer: if you are solely focused on saving money and have a small kitchen

●      Bottom Freezer: if you like having more space for keeping frozen food items

●      Side-by-Side: if storage is your primary concern and you have a narrow-space kitchen

●      French Door: if you are willing to spend a little more and get all the amenities

Storage and Capacity

Apart from the outside measurements for a perfect fit, the internal storage and capacity of the secondhand fridge freezers are also vital. Depending on your needs, the storage capacity will also vary.

For instance, if you want to keep many frozen items longer, you need a lot of space. Side-by-side models are a great solution in this.

In the case of smaller living spaces and basement kitchens, your requirement will change. Also, if your old refrigerator is still working, you can use a smaller capacity fridge-freezer as a backup.

Your Budget

Determining your price range is also vital, as that is why you’re going for a secondhand fridge freezer in the first place. You can get various models depending on the measurements you choose. So, set a budget and look for an affordable option.

To get the best options, therefore, you may have to do a bit of research. Look for garage sales in your local newspaper classifieds’ “sales” section. You can even seek references from neighbors or look at thrift shops and used appliance stores.

Summing Up

Secondhand fridge-freezers can be helpful in a lot of scenarios. You may want to replace your broken-down old Freezer but are on a budget. Or you may even want to keep a backup for your old fridge to not put too much load on it.

Whatever the reason, it is better to be as thorough as possible in your search. Of course, you will not find all the qualities you get in a brand-new model. However, you can get an appliance that will serve you just as well at a much lower price range.
