Trainz – The Learning Ways

27

Trainz is a world-building simulator with the added attraction of being able to drive trains on modeled railroads. A new user can quickly begin building routes by trial and error and well written.pdf manuals.

The wiki Help site (prefixed with the word “Help:”) is also a valuable source of information.

Trains

Trains are large, fast vehicles that carry freight or passengers. They move along tracks that run through towns and cities. They also travel over long distances. People who live in big cities ride subway trains to get around. There are many different types of trains. Some are electric, and some are diesel-powered. They all have other jobs. Some are freight trains that carry cargo like food or cars. Freight trains often travel long distances. They are an excellent way to transport goods. They are swift and can be dangerous if they are not appropriately driven. That is why it is essential to follow the rules when riding a train.

A New Era is the newest version of the Trainz series of games/simulators from N3V Games. It was funded through a Kickstarter campaign in November 2013. Contributors received prizes ranging from desktop wallpapers to first-class tickets for the Download Station, depending on their level of pledge. The game features nine in-depth tutorial sessions that introduce players to the basics of operating locomotives and rolling stock. It also allows players to issue driver commands to dozens of other trains, enhancing the sense of immersion and control.

The game’s route-building tools allow users to create their dream model railroad or reconstruct the line that runs through their home. The game also includes a variety of buildings and other structures to make their railway complete. Players can also use a tool called PaintShed to modify the appearance of their train cars. They can even add heraldry or flags that identify a particular train or line.

The game’s in-game currency is known as “points.” It can be used to purchase items at the in-game store, and to gain access to exclusive content. The game also features a new high-definition terrain engine, which offers 1600x more data density than the previous generation, allowing for ultra-detailed landscapes.

Routes

A Route is a geographical area in which you can drive your Trainz vehicles. It can be small or large, fictional, or based on real-world data. It can contain tracks, trains, hills and mountains, trees, and everything else you expect to see in the real world. A Route can also be used for multiple sessions. Each session can be driven with a different type of vehicle and in a specific season or period.

A Trainz route can be created by clicking on the Routes menu item and selecting Create. This will open Surveyor, where you can edit the way or create a new one.

Once a new route is created, it is essential to experiment with it and make sure that you save often. It’s bad enough to lose hours of hard work in a failed trial, but it can be even worse if you don’t have a backup that you can use. This is why it’s recommended that you always use a two or three-digit suffix for projects so that you can tell the difference between your current project and a previous version of the same project (e.g., “M00” means that it is a modification with zero changes).

MPS, the Multiplayer Trainz Server, provides an experience that is quite different from standard Trainz. It allows you to build, edit, and drive in a persistent, collaborative environment with other players from around the world. The server can host many routes, enabling you to move a vast variety of settings and trains, including those that might be packaged years later into a future Trainz product. You can also add layers to a route, allowing you to change things like buildings and track with just a click of a button.

Tracks

Tracks are used to guide your train around the railroad. They are usually placed at the start and end of a route, as well as at junctions where multiple tracks meet. You can also use channels to connect different paths. Ways are available in many types, including straight, curved, and looped.

If you are new to Trainz, the first thing that you will need to learn is how to create your tracks. This will help you build a better model railway and make it easier to control your train. You can also change the name, color, and Subtrack of any existing Track by selecting it and using the options available.

The ‘BiDye Traction Railroad’ is a short-line electric traction railroad serving several inter-dependent industries. This miniature virtual modeling railroad demonstrates the flexibility of Trainz: A New Era as a tool for model railway enthusiasts and prototypical fans alike.

This version includes six routes: Kickstarter County (representing the Union Pacific mainline from Denver to Hot Sulphur Springs, Colorado), West from Denver, Schwaninger Land, Liskeard to Looe (a freelance route set in modern Cornwall), Bairnsdale to Orbost (representing a Victorian Gippsland railway line), and Beloreck – South Ural Mountains.

Objects

Trainz offers a wide variety of upgraded content and routes, including new features to create your unique world. The enhanced graphics engine makes everything look great, and the speed improvements will get you moving faster than ever.

New tools are available in the Tools Palette, enabling you to select, move, rotate, delete, and perform many more actions on a selection of objects, splines, terrain, or ground textures. Gizmos are a powerful new concept, allowing you to rotate or move selected things, splines, and geography in any direction. The selection also highlights and displays a Contextual Menu icon based on the Asset Category.

Prior to Trainz-build 4.5 (TANE SP1), all world objects were loaded on Route/Session load and remained loaded until the session was closed. This became unmanageable as the number of world objects increased, and it was necessary to support the ability for scripted assets to unload things that are not currently gameplay-relevant. This page discusses how this is achieved and a list of legacy script functions that are being updated to use the modern method.

Environment

Trainz isn’t just about driving trains or running simulation sessions – the game environment is just as important. The world editing tool Surveyor is the key to constructing a railroad landscape. Unlike most model railroading games, which require some prior modeling experience, Surveyor is straightforward to learn and easy to use.

While many fans focus on the tracks themselves, few understand how to construct their surrounding scenery. This page will introduce readers to techniques they can practice. Scenery objects (assets) are dealt with through the Objects menu reached through the F3 tab, while tracks are managed through the Tracks tab accessed via the F4 key.

A good rule of thumb is that the more assets a route uses, the slower the game will run and the less smooth its display. To mitigate the effect of this phenomenon, route builders should save a map or session regularly and be sure to SAVE AS before making significant changes. This will prevent the accidental cloning of a built-in route or the overwriting of a personal content item keyed to a user’s CM account. A forced SAVE AS will also enable the practice of suffixing a route name with its own KUID.
