Vivo V20 Camera Review

The Vivo V20 is a mid-range smartphone that boasts a unique look. It sports a waterdrop notch on the front and a triple-camera setup on the back.

On the camera front, the phone comes with a 44-megapixel selfie camera that can capture super detailed selfies. It can also do front portraits and night shots with Eye Autofocus.

Camera

The Vivo V20 is the latest in the company’s acclaimed line of mid-range smartphones. It offers a premium look, a powerful processor, and the latest Android software.

We picked up the V20 with 256GB of storage and 8GB RAM for this review. It runs the FunTouch OS 11 based on the latest version of Android.

We also tested the camera to see how it fared in real-world conditions. It captured photos with ample details and an excellent dynamic range in bright sunny conditions.

It also performed well in low-light situations, with accurate colors and minimal noise. Enabling Night mode improved the level of detail, but it took about 4-5 seconds to take a shot, and you have to keep the phone steady.

The V20 also has a wide-angle lens that can be used to click photos from a wider angle than the primary sensor. However, it only offers up to 2X digital zoom, and the result isn’t as sharp as that of the primary lens.

Audio

The mono loudspeaker at the bottom gets reasonably loud but lacks fidelity. The call quality is good, though, and it does support Bluetooth codecs like AptX, SBC, and AAC.

This phone’s front camera is a highlight as it offers an aperture of f/1.8 to f/2.2, which is enough for decent bokeh. It can also shoot 120-degree wide-angle views and close-up shots focusing sharply from 2.5cm.

In addition to that, the V20’s selfie camera can detect a range of lighting conditions and automatically adjust the color temperature to suit your skin tone. It’s a great feature for taking professional-looking photos in tricky lighting situations.

The Vivo V20 runs Funtouch OS 11, based on Android 11. It feels much more stock-like than the previous version and features some nice tweaks like an improved quick toggle setting and reduced bloatware.

Display

The Vivo V20 is a gorgeous-looking smartphone with a glass back that feels and looks premium. The glass back also has a matte finish that makes the phone feel great in your hand.

The smartphone is slim and has rounded corners that make it easy to hold. The device has a 6.44-inch display with a 20:9 aspect ratio and full HD+ resolution.

On the front, the Vivo V20 sports a dewdrop notch. This is a slightly odd choice considering the hole-punch designs used by other smartphones like the Vivo V17 and Vivo V19 (Review).

The display offers crisp viewing angles, but it doesn’t offer a high refresh rate. However, it does deliver vibrant colors and deep blacks.

Performance

The Vivo V20 runs on Android 11-based FunTouch OS powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G Octa-core processor. Paired with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage space, the device offers smooth multitasking and gaming.

The device’s UI transitions and animations are snappy, and the in-display fingerprint scanner works quickly without lag or stuttering. The AMOLED panel is crisp and gets bright enough for outdoor use.

With proper lighting, the rear camera does a good job. Images are natural and retain ample details, even though it isn’t powered by gimbal camera hardware like seen on the X50 series.

The selfie camera also performs well, even when taking low-light pictures. It also has a bokeh mode that blurs the background when taking portraits.
