The Most Popular Champagnes in the United States

There are more than a hundred types of champagne, but the top two are still best sellers in the United States. They accounted for nearly a million cases last year (933k bottles). These two varieties made up two-thirds of all champagne sold in the U.S. in 2018. In terms of sales per case, Krug and Billecart-Salmon topped the charts. The next two champagnes in the list are surprisingly similar. Select the Best Champagnes.

As the most famous Champagne house in the world, Laurent-Perrier is not to be missed. Their distinctive style is all about freshness, finesse, and elegance. They don’t age their champagnes in oak, so the wine is always crisp and fresh. This house has a history of making wines, including a famous one during the time of Marie Antoinette. It first launched in Reims as Heidsieck & Co. in 1785. It specializes in fresh and fruit flavors, and they use Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Pinot Meunier grapes.

Another one of the most famous champagnes is Veuve Clicquot. This brand was founded by Madame Clicquot, a widow of a rich man in France. The business was not successful at first, but Madame Clicquot took over in 1805. She is credited with creating some of the world’s best champagnes and turning the company into a worldwide brand. Madame Clicquot married Barbe-Nicole Ponsardin, the daughter of a wealthy businessman. Today, Veuve Clicquot is the seventh generation of the Clicquot family to run the business.

Louis Roederer is another Champagne house that has gained popularity due to Cristal, a style that first debuted in 1876. Tsar Alexander II of Russia was a fan of Louis Roederer Cristal. Today, Louis Roederer’s vineyards cover three distinct growing zones, providing two-thirds of the grapes required to produce the Cristal. The brand also offers a signature blend.

Moet & Chandon is the largest producer of champagne in the world. It takes around thirty million bottles a year and has a loyal following. Dom Perignon has an excellent reputation as champagne that goes well with caviar. The world’s first woman to run a champagne house was Barbe-Nicole Ponsardin, who inherited Veuve Clicquot from her late husband. This pioneering woman developed many techniques used in Champagne production today.

The Veuve Clicquot yellow label is one of the most iconic Champagnes. Its rich and toasty flavors make it a popular choice for celebratory occasions. Californian sparkling wines are also well-known for their creamy texture and fine bubble finesse. Ruinart, which is less expensive than Veuve Clicquot, is a good value and a prestige Champagne. It has a great mid-palate weight and an impressive price.

Another popular champagne that is perfect for special occasions is Moet & Chandon, a French house founded in 1743. The estate boasts more than eight hundred acres of vineyards and 250 farmers care for each acre. Its pale yellow color is due to intense fermentation. Champagne is a popular choice among Instagrammers. The iconic brand is owned by LVMH, which has a prestigious name.
